POSSIBILITIES OF 3D ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION IN DETERMINATING INVASION DEPTH OF RECTAL TUMORS
Purpose: Investigation goal was to reveal the possibilities of 3D ultrasound examination in diagnosing rectal tumor diffusion level.
Methods and Materials: Ultrasound examination was performed on 13 patients with rectal tumors. 7 patients had locally advanced tumor (T3-T4). Tumor was limited to mucous and submucous layers in 3 patients. 3 patients had tumor advanced to muscular layer. Before the operation examination was performed using “Siemens Antares“ unit, multi-frequency convex transducer at 5–9MHz. Patients were operated within one month after examination, diagnosis was confirmed morphologically.
Results: With 3D examination one can assess tumor localization, size, level of invasion to adjacent structures.
Sensitiveness of 3D ultrasound examination in detection of tumor invasion depth was 88%
Conclusions: US is an effective method for the rectal tumor dissemination diagnostics.
