Die Arzneipflanze findet heute v. a. Anwendung in der Homöopathie und Kosmetik.

Summary

Arctium lappa L.

Arctium lappa L., greater burdock, is a medicinal plant known since ancient times. The European as well as the Chinese traditional medicine use mainly seeds and roots for topical application in cases of inflammatory diseases of the skin or to cure bacterial infections. As pharmacological active principle the lignans, like Arctigenin or Diarctigenen were characterized. Inulin, localized in high amounts in the root can be used to treat constipation. The drug contains also derivatives of hydroxycinnamic acid, sterols and polyines. Today the plant is used largely in homeopathy and cosmetics.
