    Introduction:

This study evaluates the influence of a 3-D-documentation- and planning-system on aesthetic rhinoplasty.

    Methods:

Based on 100 patients' aesthetic landmarks of the nose were collected preoperatively and postoperatively. Landmarks were compared to each other in both conditions as well as to the planning dataset. Further, data regarding patient's satisfaction on application of the system were gathered. The technical system is based on six high resolution cameras and a special simulation-software (VECTRA 3D).

    Results:

The accordance of altogether 1.470 landmarks from three data sources (pre, sim, post) was 76%. Especially sensitive to errors was the XYZ-projection of the supratipregion, while the angle of the radix was especially robust. Predominantly, the system shows a benefit for patient's consultation situation.

    Conclusions:

The 4-D face analysis offers not only advantages for surgical planning but also for the common definition of goal parameters for optical surgical outcome. It offers important details like changes in vessel formation and can thereby distinctly increase intraoperative safety. By data saving within the medical record of the patient all relevant information is intraoperatively available to the surgeon immediately.
