Introduction Odontogenic maxillary sinusitis is the inflammation of the maxillary sinus mucosa from teeth infection.

Methods This paper is a retrospective study, from 2015 to 2018, on the patients with the diagnosis of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis. Of the 132 cases of maxillary sinusitis, 21 were odontogenic. Patient evaluation criteria have been followed: clinical changes, imaging changes, endoscopic changes and histopathological Results.

Results The study performs a odontological etiological analysis in 21 patients from a total of 132 hospitalized patients with the diagnosis of chronic maxillary sinusitis. From odontonal etiology of the chronic maxillary sinusitis, there were represented by apical paradontoses - 7 cases, root cystitis - 6 cases, root remnants - 5 cases and dental extraction with alveolo-sinus fistulas - 3 cases. The patients were divided into 2 groups: 18 of them did not have oro-antral fistula, and 3 of the patients had an oro-antral fistula. The treatment included medical treatment, dental treatment: endodontic treatment or dental extraction and surgical treatment (maxillary cyst ablation by endoscopic approach, radical maxillary sinus procedures, and closure of alveolo-sinusal communication).

Conclusions Diagnosing and prophylaxis progress, would reduce the number of odontogenic chronic maxillary sinusitis. Functional endoscopic surgery of the maxillary sinus is a method with optimal functional Results.
