Introduction Patients with vascular malformation in the head and neck region suffer not only from their disease by local complaints like dysphagia or dyspnoea. Furthermore, they have a limited quality of life. We performed a retrospective examination of patients presenting in our ENT-clinic and compared the quality of life in the WHOQOL questionnaire.

Methods 52 patients with a vasucular malformation of the head and neck were treated at the department of otorhinolaryngology at the University of Regensburg between 2017 and 2020. 30 patients filled in the questionnaire concerning the course of their disease, potential triggers, therapies and quality of life.

Results The scores in the questionnaires concerning quality of life showed a reduction of quality of life, but not as strong as expected. These limitations concerned especially patients with venous malformations in the head and neck region.

Summary Patients with vascular malformations in the head and neck showed often local complaints, but also reductions in their quality of life. This is mostly the case in patients with venous malformations of the head and neck.
