Introduction Dizziness is a common leading symptom and is associated with a severe impairment of quality of life (QoL) especially in patients with chronic vertigo syndrome (CVS). Especially the aspects "emotional impairment" (EI), "functional impairment" (FI) and "physical impairment" (PI) in everyday life are mapped with DHI-G.

Material and methods: Based on inpatient interdisciplinary diagnostics 102 patients with unclear CVS diagnoses and DHI-G were surveyed in 2018. These were examined for differences between the sexes, time span of complaints, diagnoses and DHI-G score.

Results: In a total of 102 patients, 62 %  were female and 38 %  male. The average age was 56 ± 18 years (range: 12-92 years). The time span between the first appearance of vertigo symptoms and the inpatient clarification was one to five years in 58 %  and more than six years in 37 %  of the cases. The most frequent diagnoses with 22 %  were neuropathia vestibularis and functional dizziness. Polyneuropathy was diagnosed in 12 %  and central vertigo or Ménière's disease in 8 %  of cases. On average, a total score of 52 ± 19 (0-100) was obtained in the DHI-G with a maximum of 96 points. FI was most distinct and averaged 20 ± 8 (0-36) points. EI was 19 ± 8 (0-36) points and PI was 12 ± 7 (0-28) points.

Discussion: On average patients with CVS suffer moderately to severely from their long-term dizziness. Especially FI and EI have a strong influence on the QoL. The influence of structured inpatient interdisciplinary diagnostics on QoL should be investigated in further studies.
