Abstract

Nerve conduction studies of the sural nerve are of great importance in the diagnosis of polyneuropathies. This article reviews different examination techniques with their advantages and disadvantages, discusses measurements and normal values and helps to differentiate between axonal and demyelinating nerve pathology. Finally, a standard procedure for the examination and its evaluation is proposed.
