Abstract

Conservative treatment of osteoarthritis is divided into non-pharmacological therapy and medication. In addition to general information, consultation and education, non-pharmacological treatment options include diverse physical therapy procedures such as movement therapy, physiotherapy, medical training and sports therapy as well as aquatic training. In recent years, several studies evaluating the treatment of hip and knee osteoarthritis, among other things, have demonstrated clinically relevant effects such as pain reduction and functional improvement in the presence of cost effectiveness and a balanced risk-benefit profile. The following article summarises the most important conservative treatment options.
