Der Funktionsregler nach Fränkel

Zusammenfassung

Dieser Artikel gibt einen kleinen Überblick über den von Rolf Fränkel entwickelten Funktionsregler. Das von ihm beschriebene Behandlungskonzept der orofazialen Orthopädie ist auch heute noch fester Bestandteil im Repertoire vieler Kieferorthopäden weltweit.

Von den ursprünglichen 4 Grundtypen finden noch die Typen FR-1 und FR-2 Anwendung bei der Therapie einer Unterkieferrücklage. Der Typ FR-3 kommt als Frühbehandlungsgerät bei einem Missverhältnis im Wachstum beider Kiefer, d. h. bei einer Unterentwicklung des Oberkiefers und/oder Überentwicklung des Unterkiefers zum Einsatz.

In diesem Artikel wird der aktuelle Stand der Weiterentwicklungen der verschiedenen Typen des Funktionsreglers erläutert und die zwischenzeitlich stattgefundenen Modifikationen dargestellt. Es wird das klinische Management aufgezeigt. Vorbereitende Maßnahmen, wie z. B. die Abformung der Kiefer und des Vestibulums oder die Anfertigung des Konstruktionsbiss werden erläutert und es wird hierbei auf mögliche Fehlerquellen hingewiesen.

Da insbesondere der Erfolg der Therapie auch von der labortechnischen Herstellung abhängt, widmet sich dieser Artikel ebenfalls der Umsetzung der Vorgaben von Rolf Fränkel bei der Fabrikation der Funktionsregler Typen FR-2 und FR-3.

Abstract

This article gives an overview of the functional regulator according to Fraenkel. His concept of orofacial orthopedics is still an integral part of the repertoire of many orthodontists worldwide.

From originally 4 types of the functional regulator only 3 are still used nowadays for the correction of a receding lower jaw. The FR-3 is used in early treatment to adjust imbalances of the growth of the jaws, i. e. the underdevelopment of the upper jaw and/or the overdevelopment of the lower jaw.

The article describes the current enhancements of the different types of the functional regulator and show the modifications that have been made in the meantime. Clinical management is also an important part. Preparatory measures, such as the impression of the jaws and the vestibule and taking the correct registration bite will be shown as well as possible sources of error.

Since the success of the therapy is very dependent on the manufacturing in the laboratory the article also focuses on the realization of specifications from Rolf Fraenkel during the manufacturing process of the FR-2 and FR-3.
