Abstract
Increasing insight into the clinical phenotype and mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infections
and COVID-19 has identified damage of the kidneys as a key player in the course of
the disease. This manuscript updates our previous summary with current knowledge on
kidney involvement in COVID-19 and chronic kidney disease as a risk factor for severe
COVID-19, as well as recommendations regarding SARS-CoV-2 vaccination for patients
suffering from chronic kidney disease and after organ transplantation, respectively.
populations, SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is strongly recommended for all patients suffering
from chronic kidney disease and after kidney transplantation.
