François Huberland et al. Magnets and a self-retractable wire for endoscopic septotomies: from concept to first-in-human use

The potential of magnets to make a communication between a diverticulum and the esophageal lumen to create an endoscopic septotomy is shown in two patients with an epiphrenic esophageal diverticulum. These promising results warrant further studies on the performance of septotomy for diverticula, such as Zenker diverticulum, and other pathological conditions that mimic a diverticulum as in “candy cane” syndrome.
