Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Schlafmittel und Tonikum im Ayurveda, oder?

Ashwagandha ist Sanskrit und bedeutet „Pferdegeruch“. Der wissenschaftliche Name dieser Pflanze ist Withania somnifera. Sie gehört zur Familie der Nachtschattengewächse (Solanaceae), wie Kartoffel, Aubergine, Tomate, Bittersüßer Nachtschatten (Solanum dulcamara) und Tollkirsche (Atropa belladonna). Bei uns wird Ashwagandha auch Indischer Ginseng, Schlafbeere oder winter cherry genannt.
