Antonio Facciorusso et al. Predictors of adverse events after endoscopic ultrasound-guided through-the-needle biopsy of pancreatic cysts: a recursive partitioning analysis

Through-the-needle biopsy (TTNB) with a microforceps is an accurate method to obtain histological diagnosis in pancreatic cystic lesions; however, it is associated with adverse events (AEs), particularly acute pancreatitis. In this analysis of 506 patients, the authors developed and validated a prognostic model to predict AEs of TTNB. Patients with a diagnosis of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) who underwent more than one TTNB pass had the highest risk of AEs (28 %), while those aged < 64 with a diagnosis other than IPMN undergoing no more than two TTNB passes had the lowest risk (1.4 %).
