Theodor A. Voiosu et al. A simple clinical score to stratify the risk of procedure-related adverse events in ERCP procedures with trainee involvement

In this prospective multicenter study including 1283 ERCP procedures, with one-third performed by trainees, an adverse event (AE) risk score – the Trainee Involvement in ERCP Risk Score (TIERS) – was developed. TIERS had a high negative predictive value of 83 % and was the only predictor of AEs on multivariable analysis (odds ratio 1.38, 95 %CI 1.09–1.75). This simple instrument may help to identify procedures that can be used for hands-on ERCP training of less experienced trainees and to reduce the psychological impact of AEs on trainees during their training period.
