Abstract
In addition to the underlying components of the venous system, other factors continually
influence venous haemodynamics to varying degrees. Non-modifiable influencing factors
are, for instance, age, genetic predisposition, and sex. Since nicotine consumption
and obesity also contribute to the development of chronic venous disorders (CVD),
it is important to eliminate these modifiable influencing factors. Diseases of the
musculoskeletal apparatus, such as foot deformities or restricted joint mobility,
are modifiable. Inquiring about and recognising musculoskeletal pathologies is particularly
important in daily clinical practice, since physiotherapeutic measures can positively
influence venous haemodynamics by improving musculoskeletal function. Occupational
and non-occupational forced postures need to be identified as they can be a risk factor
for CVD. Knowledge of the mechanisms of vein physiology, which are influenced by underlying
components and factors, helps in everyday clinical practice to diagnose venous disorders
and to select appropriate treatment methods.
