Elisabetta Mastrorocco et al. Gender authorship in major American and European gastroenterology journals: the gap is still unfilled

Gender diversity in first and senior authorship of publications from 10 top gastrointestinal journals and in ongoing research shown on clinicaltrials.gov was explored in this systematic review. First female authorship and senior female authorship were 33.5% and 21.6%, respectively, for published articles, and 29.4% of principal investigators of ongoing research projects were female. When comparing nonendoscopic vs. endoscopic topics, the latter was associated with a larger gender gap. The results highlight the importance of equity in career development through authorship.
