Significance

Alkyne hydration is a process of significant synthetic utility, considering the importance of carbonyl compound for modern organic synthesis. The authors reported here an extremely efficient and highly versatile protocol for Au-catalyzed alkyne hydration. Loading as low as 0.001 mol% is sufficient for some cases, which makes this process very attractive even for industrial application despite the high price of gold.
