Abstract

Hydrocephalic children were assessed on a simple test of manual speed and shown to perform almost universally below the 1st percentile for normal children. In a second investigation a group of hydrocephalic children were compared with age matched normal control on a task which enabled the decision processes involved in deciding when and where to move to be dissociated from the time taken to execute the movement. The results suggest that poor manual speed in hydroCephalus is due to retardation in the actual execution of movement rather than slow decision processes.
