Abstract

An attempt was made to study the effect of different steroids (DOCA, HC, TP, MT, EE and P) on hemicastration induced compensatory hypertrophy of the testis in the green frog, Rana hexadactyla. Androgens and EE block this compensatory hypertrophy, whereas DOCA, HC and P have no significant effect. These steroids show varied actions on testicular and adrenal histology. All these steroids in general cause degranulation of the cortical cells, TP and MT pycnosis of the cortical cell nuclei, EE causes hypertrophy of the stilling cells.
