Plasma insulin levels were measured in rabbits in response to pancreozymin and secretin.
Suppression of intestinal hormone induced insulin secretion was attempted by pre-treatment
with mannoheptulose and with 2-deoxy-D-glucose. The response to pancreozymin was not
significantly altered by 2-deoxy-D-glucose, but was suppressed to a mean of 38.5%
of control values by mannoheptulose. - Secretin did not induce insulin secretion in
this model.
The data suggest that blockade of glycolysis interferes with pancreozymin-induced
insulin release depending on the site of blockade.
