Summary
In this prospective study 100 consecutive patients underwent diagnostic cystoscopy
as outpatients under clean but not sterile conditions and without the use of any chemotherapeutic
or antibiotic coverage. The incidence of bacteriuria was negligible. The normal bladder
can rid itself of infection by means of voiding and by its inherent antibacterial
activity. It is concluded that operating room conditions and the use of prophylactic
agents are not necessary in the prevention of urinary tract infections of the normal
bladder undergoing simple cystoscopy.
Zusammenfassung
In einer prospektiven Studie wurde bei 100 ambulanten Patienten eine Zystoskopie unter
sauberen, aber nicht sterilen Bedingungen durchgeführt, ohne daß Chemotherapeutika
oder Antibiotika gegeben wurden. Die Inzidenz einer Bakteriurie war vernachlässigbar.
Offenbar geht eine Infektion durch Wasserlassen und die antibakterielle Aktivität
der Blase selbst nicht an. Daraus läßt sich schließen, daß Operationssaalbedingungen
und prophylaktische Antibiotikagabe bei der einfachen Zystoskopie nicht erforderlich
sind.
