Abstract

Extracts of some species of Santalum were found to lower the blood pressure of rats more than 50 %, and for periods greater than 1 hour. The active principle obtained from stems and leaves was insoluble in chloroform, but soluble in EtOH or water. The hypotensive action resulted from liberation of mast cell histamine.
