Abstract
Hydrocarbons (n–nonacosan, n–octacosan), hydrocarbon ketons (myriston, ginnon), a hydrocarbon alcohol (triacontanol) and steroidal compounds (β–sitosterol and an unknown trihydroxy steroidal alcohol) were obtained from the petroleum ether extract of the leaves of Styrax officinalis. A sugar alcohol (styracit) was separated from the alcoholic extracts of the same plant. They were identified by using spectral methods and comparing with standard samples.
