Summary
Preliminary chemical and pharmacological studies on the leaves of Gynandropsis gynandra L. indicate that they contain alkaloidal and resinous substances beside the occurance
of tannins and volatile oil. The plant may be of value in arterial hypertension and
constipation as it has been shown to lower the blood pressure and stimulate the intestinal
muscles.
Zusammenfassung
Eine vorläufige chemische und pharmakologische Untersuchung der Blätter von Gynandropsis gynandra L. ergab, daß sie neben Gerbstoffen und ätherischem öl alkaloidische und harzige Inhaltstoffe
enthalten. Die Art zeigte im pharmakologischen Test eine blutdrucksenkende und bei
Obstipation stimulierende Wirkung auf die Darmmuskulatur.
