Publication Date:

Summary
At the beginning of 1970 there was an epidemic increase in meningococcal infections in the Federal Republic of Germany. Out of 126 causative strains which were isolated predominantly during the epidemic, 13 were sulphonamide resistant. All these strains belonged to Group C and all Group C strains cultured since March 1970 proved to be resistant. A slight but consistent reduction in the sensitivity to penicillin and ampicillin could also be demonstrated.
