Zusammenfassung
Die Länge des Zyklus einer gesunden Frau schwankt etwas von Monat zu Monat. Solche
Streuungen werden durch arrhythmische Impulse psychonervöser Zentren ausgelöst und
sind noch als physiologisch aufzufassen. Außerdem verschiebt sich manchmal das Ende
oder der Anfang eines Zyklus um 7 Tage oder ein Mehrfaches davon. Diese Zeitspanne
wird als Grundeinheit des Zyklus aufgefaßt und „Zykluswoche” genannt. Streuungen und
Verschiebungen können zusammentreffen. Aus einer großen Zahl länger beobachteter Zyklen
werden einige Beispiele gebracht. Sie zeigen, daß die „unregelmäßige” Periode im Grunde
nach einer bestimmten Regel verläuft. Der Mechanismus dieser Regelung ist unklar.
Summary
The duration of menses varies slightly from month to month even in normal women. Such
irregularities are due to non-rhythmic influences from the higher centres and are
to be considered as physiological variations. In addition, the beginning or end of
a cycle is occasionally shifted by 7 days, or a multiple thereof. Because of this,
the 7-day span is thought of as the basic time unit of a cycle, the “cycle week”.
Deviations and irregularities may coincide, as is illustrated with a number of examples
from a large series of observations. It is shown that the so-called irregular cycles
actually follow a definite rule, although the cause of this regular irregularity is
not known.

La duración del ciclo en una mujer sana oscila aprox. de mes en mes. Tales variaciones,
son provocadas por impulsos arrítmicos de los centros psiconerviosos, pudiéndose considerar
aún como fisiológicos. Además, el principio o final del ciclo se puede desplazar a
veces en 7 días o en un múltiplo de éste. Este lapso de tiempo se toma como unidad
básica del ciclo y se le llama «semana cíclica». Las variaciones y los desplazamientos
pueden coincidir. Se ponen algunos ejemplos sobre un gran número de ciclos observados
durante largo tiempo. Ellos demostraron que el período «irregular» cursa bajo determinada
regla, no estando claro el mecanismo de esta regulación.
