Significance

Mesoporous silica-supported chiral rhodium and ruthenium catalysts 4 and 5 were prepared by mixing SBA-15 (pore size of 7.6 nm) and the organometallic complexes RhCl[(R)-MonoPhos(CH2)3Si(OMe)3][(R,R)-DPEN] and RuCl2[(R)-MonoPhos(CH2)3Si(OMe)3][(R,R)-DPEN], which were generated in situ prior to the immobilization (postgrafting protocol). The hydrogenation of ketones 6 was carried out with rhodium catalyst 4 (0.5 mol%) and potassium isopropoxide in i-PrOH under 40 atm H2 to give the corresponding secondary alcohols 7 in 97.6 to >99% conversion (41.7-53.8% ee, 6 examples).
