Significance

Hexagonal microporous silica-supported copper nanoparticles (Cu-HMS) were obtained by the reaction of CuCl2 with n-dodecylamine and tetraethoxyorthosilicate in a mixture of water and acetonitrile under microwave (200 W) irradiation for 1-15 minutes. The S-arylation of thiols with aryl iodides was carried out in the presence of Cu-HMS for 10-30 minutes under microwave irradiation to give the corresponding coupling products in up to >99% conversion with good selectivity.
