Significance

The tin-tungsten mixed oxide (SnW2-800) was prepared by treatment of Na2WO4˙2H2O with SnCl4˙5H2O in H2O followed by calcination at 800 ˚C. SnW2-800 promoted the Diels-Alder reaction of dienes 1 with dienophiles 2 to give the corresponding adducts 3 in 82-97% yield (eq. 1, 9 examples). The catalyst was also utilized for the cyanosilylation reaction of carbonyl compounds 4 with TMSCN to give the corresponding products 5 in 85-99% yield (eq. 2, 15 examples).
