Significance

4-Hydroxydictyolactone is a soft coral metabolite belonging to the xenicane class of diterpenes. A key step in the synthesis depicted is an intramolecular B-alkyl Suzuki coupling (G → H) to construct the strained cyclononene ring. This paper is noteworthy for its detailed discussion of stereochemical issues.
