Significance

The asymmetric epoxidation of olefins is one of the most studied reactions due to the high synthetic value of the resulting enantiopure epoxides. The authors report the development of a novel family of chiral Mn(II) complexes of N4-ligands for the asymmetric epoxidation of enones and nonfunctionalized olefins, with H2O2 in the presence of acetic acid. With 1 mol% catalyst loading, the enantioselective epoxidation of olefins proceeds with good yields and up to 89% ee.
