This study reports the cobalt-catalyzed [6+2] cycloaddition of cycloheptatriene with internal alkynes. Additionally, the authors found that terminal alkenes also undergo cycloaddition giving bicyclic products in excellent yield. Bicyclic ring systems provide structural definition that is very useful in supramolecular assemblies.
