Significance

CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) is a transmembrane protein that is a host co-receptor for a number of HIV-1 strains. CXCR-4 antagonists could be beneficial in suppressing the replication of late-stage viruses. GSK812397 is a lead for the treatment of HIV infection.
