Significance

The authors have developed the first catalytic desymmetrization of ruthenium complexes via palladium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenolysis. The desired planar chiral planar ruthenium complexes were obtained in good yields and excellent enantioselectivities. Furthermore, the authors have established a convenient microwave-assisted synthesis of [RuCp(MeCN)3][PF6] from readily available starting ruthenocene.
