Significance

(R)-Tolterodine tartrate (Detrol®) is a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist that is widely used to treat urinary incontinence. The synthesis of (R)-tolterodine exemplifies the asymmetric hydrosilylation of coumarins catalyzed by [(R)-DTBM-SEGPHOS]CuH. The stoichiometric reductant, diethoxymethylsilane, is cheap.
