Summary

Chamomile (Matricaria recutita L.) and the risk of drug interaction Based on the current state of scientific knowledge, a suspicion of interaction between preparations of chamomile and other drugs exist which include a pharmacodynamic interaction between warfarin and cumarin from chamomile as well as pharmacokinetic interaction with cyclosporine. The results are based on in vitro resp. experiment on rats and also on two publications of three clinical case reports. The results of the two cases with cyclosporine are antithetic. However, none of the results of the three reports is scientifically verifiable from studies in the literature. According to these data, the suspicion of the occurrence of interactions between chamomile preparations and cyclosporine or warfarin cannot be deduced.
