Zusammenfassung

Die septische Arthritis ist eine schwerwiegende Erkrankung, die sich ohne rigorose Behandlungsmaßnahmen zu einer lebensbedrohlichen Situation entwickeln kann. Andererseits ist durch eine schnelle Anwendung sowohl etablierter als auch neuer Therapiemethoden die vollständige Wiederherstellung der infizierten Strukturen möglich, bevor sie irreversibel geschädigt werden. Dieser Artikel soll eine Zusammenfassung der Literatur zur systematischen Aufarbeitung von Ätiologie, Diagnose und Behandlungsstrategien septischer Prozesse im Gelenk beim ausgewachsenen Pferd leisten.

Summary

Infection of synovial structures in adult horses is a serious disease and can become life-threatening. The affected horse might completely recover in case the infection can be eliminated before an irreversible damage of the affected structure occurs. This article gives an overview concerning etiology, diagnosis and strategies for therapy concerning infections of articular structures in horses.
