Abstract

The article portrays a geometric method to determine the instantaneous motion axes (centrodes) on x-rays which allow detection and measurement of movement dysfunction. This provides interesting opportunities predominantly in research but also in diagnosis. Assessment of centrode position in normal and pathologic joint function as well as abnormal centrodes in degenerated or traumatic joints, variable centrode positions in loaded and unloaded joints and importance of translational in comparison to passive rotatory movement aiming at normalisation of centrode position are described.
