Significance

The cyanosilylation of nitroalkenes has been reported to proceed under the catalysis of a bifunctional quinine derivative 2 with tetraalkyl-ammonium cyanide and thiourea moieties. After aqueous workup β-nitronitriles 3 were obtained in good yields with enantiomeric ratios up to 93:7.
