Significance

MCM-41-pr-TMEDA+Cl-, an MCM-41 grafted quaternary ammonium salt with a terminal amino group, as a novel heterogeneous bifunctional catalyst was prepared. The one-pot reaction of epoxides 1 and CO2 with MCM-41-pr-TMEDA+Cl- followed by treatment with methanol afforded dimethyl carbonate (3) and 1,3-diols 4.
