Zusammenfassung

Kieferorthopädie-Patienten, die mit ihrem Behandlungsresultat nicht zufrieden sind, suchen meist bei einem anderen Behandler eine „Second Opinion“. Bei dieser Konsultation muss abgewogen werden, was dem Patienten an apparativem Aufwand, an Zeit und an Kosten nach der ent­täuschenden ersten Erfahrung noch zugemutet werden kann. Analysiert man das erste Behandlungsresultat, kann festgestellt werden, dass die erste Therapie oft viel zu lange gedauert hat, dass zu viele und unnütze Apparaturen verwendet wurden und dass der Entscheid Extraktion bzw. Nichtextraktion nicht klar gefällt wurde. Eine Zweitbehandlung sollte möglichst kurz, effizient und schonend sein. Anhand von klinischen Beispielen werden Lösungen für häufig angetroffene Misserfolge aufgezeigt. Für die zweite Behandlung wird „Tip-Edge Orthodontics“, eine fixe „Light-wire“-Apparatur eingesetzt. 

Abstract

A second opinion is often sought by patients who have had insufficient orthodontic treatment. The crucial points, when considering a second ther­apy, are treatment time, orthodontic technique and costs. In assessing the initial results, it may be stated that treatment times have often been much too long, that the appliances have not been suitable or effective and that the question of ­“extraction or nonextraction” has not been ­suf­ficiently answered. Choosing the “Tip-Edge” meth­od for retreatment could provide valuable answers and prevent subsequent failures.
