Obstetric hemorrhage from placenta accreta is associated with a high rate of maternal
morbidity and mortality. Recently, balloon occlusion catheters have been used to control
intraoperative bleeding during the surgical management of placenta accreta. In this
article, we present a review of the literature reporting the use of balloon occlusion
catheters in the management of placenta accrete, and a case presentation outlining
the use of a Fogarty balloon occlusion catheter to achieve hemostasis in the preoperative
management of placenta percreta.
