Summary

With respect to specific selection criteria about 15 % of patients qualify for minimally-invasive thyroid surgery. Without compromise the same quality criteria as for the conventional open procedure have to be fulfilled. Minimally-invasive parathyroidectomy with intra-operative parathyroid hormone measurement represents the current operative standard treatment for primary hyperparathyroidism. Trans- or extraperitoneal minimally-invasive adrenalectomy has become the gold standard of care for patients with benign tumors of the adrenal gland.
