Anti-Müllerian hormone has a regulative function in the activation of folliculogenesis and an influence in atresia rate. It is considered as a marker for the ovarian reserve.

A relationship between AMH and oocyte retrieval number, antral follicle count (AFC), pregnancy rates and birth rates is known. In the literature the role of AMH as an efficient prognostic factor determining the probability of pregnancy have been largely discussed. The aim of this study is to clarify the current value of AMH in one of the biggest collectives as a single study, analysing success rates in IVF/ICSI therapies.

1295 patients who underwent an IVF/ICSI treatment in Wiesbaden Kinderwunschzentrum between 2003 – 2010 were analysed retrospectively. Statistical studies were performed through SPSS. Females' mean age was 34,89 (21 – 44) and performed 1 – 11 cycles. Younger women had significantly higher AMH levels (p = 0,001). Patients with higher AMH levels had significant lower break off rates

(p < 0,0005) and a significant higher number of oocytes retrieved (p < 0,0005). The higher the amount of AMH, the higher is the pregnancy rate (p = 0,017). Focusing on patients' age, AMH has no influence on the pregnancy rate in younger patients (< 35 years).

AMH is a useful parameter which should be known before performing an IVF/ICSI treatment. In younger patients, AMH level does not have any influence on pregnancy outcome. In patients older than 35 years AMH can be used as a prognostic factor. Even in cases of AMH levels below limit of detection there is still an acceptable chance to reach pregnancy.
