Abstract

Development of efficient and reliable method to form a C-C bond between heteroaromatics and carbon α to carbonyl group has been a subject of interest in organic chemistry. The use of photochemical reaction to approach the arylation of enones has proven to be a transformation of great unity in pharmaceutical and organic synthesis. In this study, the direct coupling of α-idio substituted unsaturated ketones with heteroaromatics has been achieved via photochemical reaction. A variety of α-heteroarylunsaturated ketones were obtained in moderate yields from the corresponding α-idio substituted unsaturated ketones with heteroaromatics such as pyrrole, furan, thiophene. The reaction worked smoothly in acetonitrile under a mercury lampwithout any additives, which provides a catalyst and base-free approach for the arylation of α,β-unsaturated ketones.
