Dear Colleagues,

The 42nd Annual Conference of the German Society for Neuropediatrics (GNP) and the 13th GNP Further Training Academy will take place in the Ruhr Area from April 21 to 24, 2016. You are warmly invited.

For the first time, the annual conference will be hosted jointly by two heads of neuropediatric departments of university clinics in the Ruhr Area (Prof. Ulrike Schara/Essen and Prof. Thomas Lücke/Bochum). The scientific program of the event will take place at RuhrCongress Bochum and the networking dinner at “Zeche Zollverein” in Essen. RuhrCongress is a venue that offers a pleasant atmosphere for discussions among colleagues and is centrally located and easy to reach. A world heritage site and formerly the “world's most beautiful coal mine,” Zeche Zollverein is the most famous industrial monument and center of the creative industry in the Ruhr Area today.

The main topics of the annual conference are neonatal neurology, neuromuscular disorders, and neurometabolic diseases. Among other themes, we will be talking about the significance of modern imaging methods and innovative therapeutic approaches (from enzyme replacement therapy through gene therapy to bone marrow transplantation). In addition, we will be looking at the aspect of multisystemic syndromes in neuropediatric diseases. Topics such as pain management, nutrition for children with complex diseases, quality of life, transition, and the palliative situation will take center stage.

Due to the double presidency and a venue that is easy to reach in a major urban region with a population of over 10 million people, we trust that the “Neuropaediatrics in the Ruhr Area” conference will attract many delegates. We are expecting an innovative, interdisciplinary, and visionary congress, for the first time with professional child care!

We are looking forward to welcome you in the Ruhr Area in 2016.

The abstracts of the talks and posters will be published as an online-only supplement to Neuropediatrics. The link to this supplement will be posted later on the homepage of our society, www.neuropaediatrie.com. The German version of the abstracts will be published in Neuropädiatrie in Klinik und Praxis.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. med. Ulrike Schara
