Hyperglycemia is a common complication in critically ill, nondiabetic children. Four
large pediatric randomized controlled trials of tight glycemic control (TGC) have
been conducted to date with contradicting results. This review will highlight the
design and outcomes of these trials and other relevant studies to provide an overview
of the advantages and disadvantages of TGC for different populations at risk of hyperglycemia
along with future directions for research.
