Anthrax is a fatal septicemia disease of sheep and goats caused by bacillus anthracis. Its typical manifestations are fever, muscle-tremors, dyspnea, and usually sudden death with rectal prolapse, bloating, enlargement of spleen and oozing of tarry blood from natural orifices. It is a zoonotic disease prevailing in mammals. Its prevalence is more in hot and humid weather with no effective treatment known. The epidemic can be controlled either with spore vaccine or with homeopathy. Vaccines apart from being costly, are not easily available and even if available, the vaccinators are reluctant to inoculate for fear of auto-infection. In severe outbreaks a second booster dose is warranted. However, homeopathy offers a safe alternative with very effective and rapid action. The rubrics of the homeopathic nosode preparation, anthracinum match most to the symptomatology of anthrax disease, irrespective of the mutation of the bacteria, year after year.

This research was conducted in 2, 35,000 sheep and goats in anthrax endemic Kadapa district in India, from Jan 2001 to Sep 2016 covering 52 villages.15 mill litres of anthracinum 200 dilution were mixed thoroughly with 1 litre of 2.5% Albendazole suspension and drenched orally either with a drenching gun or with a 10 ml syringe in a single bolus of 10 ml for adult and 5 ml for young animals.

All the threatened sheep and goats were saved from certain death with a single dose of anthracinum 200 CH. Homeopathy is very effective in epidemics of animals, it is very economical, safe and shows a very rapid response.
