An often misinterpreted finding in oropharyngeal tumors- The peripheral T-cell lymphoma
Prof. Dr. Dr. H.-J. WelkoborskyCase Report:
The inital presentation oft the 85 year old patient took place due to reasonable suspicion of having a large oropharyngeal, midline corssing tumor of unknown dignity. The patient reportet that because of the suspicion of an obstructive sleep apnea syndrome a initial fitting of a CPAP device was without success prior to the visit to our clinic. During the E.N.T. examination we have found a oropharyngeal tumor- thus indicating an endoscopy in gernal anaesthesia in exceptation of a oropharyngeal carcinoma. The histopathological findings showed a peripheral T-cell lymphoma (midline granuloma). In the end we initiated the introduction to our oncology department.
Conclusions:
Despite the high clinical experience of individual examiners, a detailed and careful clinical examination must always take place, so that rare findings can be delivered to a purposeful therapy.
