Introduction:

The causes of swollen eyes can be diverse and can cause first a cosmetic problem and uncertainty for those affected. Troubling for the patients are repeatedly or permanently swollen eyes which usually lead to a doctor's visit. The most important causes include infections, insect bites, allergies, sleep deprivation, kidney failure, heart insufficiency and rarely tumors.

Method/Results:

Two cases of male patients are presented here who claimed for some time the symptoms of the morning unilateral swelling of the eye. In the first case, the existing atypical symptomatic despite conservative therapy and atypical imaging revealed histological evidence of NHL. In the second case, the elucidation of the patient's secondary diseases despite the inconspicuous ENT history and the associated imaging confirmed the cause of a vascular stenosis.

Conclusions:

Besides an ophthalmological, internal medicine and possibly dental examination, the unilateral eyelid swelling often requires a diagnostic approach by the ENT doctor. Although most of the cases can be classified among the common causes and treated accordingly, it would be useful by atypical history or failure of therapy to expand our differential diagnostic range.
